St. John’s Academy comprises a variety of buildings with lighting installed both internally and externally. The lighting project at this school consisted of two phases, the first being the replacement of 48 fluorescent high bay fittings in the sports hall with modern LED alternatives with digital presence controls. The installation resulted in a reduction of the number of fittings by half and a saving of more than 20,000 kWh and in excess of £3,500 each year.
The second phase of this lighting replacement project comprised the replacement of the school’s exterior lighting with modern LED bulkhead fittings, in addition to the introduction of four new lamp columns to replace bollard lighting, which was previously the target of vandalism. The exterior lighting replacement resulted in further savings of 62,000kWh each year and £12,000 per annum.
