Square Works, Bristol

Client: Square Works, Bristol Project type: Office meeting rooms and wellness spaces Objective: To unite a two-part building, which is part Georgian town house and part 1970s extension, through using an interior style, featuring both art deco and mid-century interior design. A full refurbishment was undertaken to transform an extremely unloved building to more than its former glory! The interior fitout was dated and tired, yet the building's period features, often revealed through crumbing walls or brittle wallpaper, provided a nostalgic nod to the interesting architecture living within the skin of the building. A lighting design was required which visually connected the two distinctly dissimilar parts of the building, whilst also providing each part with its own interior style, and whether solo working, large meetings, early morning yoga or evening networking over drinks at a gig, the spaces have to accommodate a variety of uses. The LED artificial skylights are absolutely key to the meeting room and can easily be modified through a control system to represent any time of day or weather! Furthermore, LED technology that allows the lighting to appear warmer in colour as the lights are dimmed down, extends the variation of atmospheres which can be created. A mix of decorative pendants and quirky floor lamps compliment the furniture and enhance the interior design panache.
